Framed in ornate gilt metalwork worthy of its Victorian-inspired subject, this Salem China Co. Godey Prints decorative plate features a colorful period fashion scene surrounded by a rich cobalt blue border embellished with delicate gold floral decoration and a wide gilt band. Produced by Salem China Company in Salem, Ohio, USA, circa 1940s–1950s, the porcelain plate belongs to the company’s Godey Prints line, which drew inspiration from the fashionable illustrations associated with Godey’s Lady’s Book, the influential 19th-century American women’s magazine. The central scene depicts elegantly dressed women and a child in mid-19th-century attire, giving the piece a distinctly Victorian and Southern Belle aesthetic. The plate is displayed in an elaborate gold-tone metal wall frame with pierced floral scrollwork, embossed detailing, and a decorative crown crest, creating the appearance of a miniature framed portrait. A distinctive collectible for enthusiasts of Salem China, Godey Prints, vintage porcelain plates, Victorian fashion, cobalt blue china, decorative wall plates, and mid-century American ceramics. Good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
