Bring a piece of American laundry history to your collection with this Orion No. 6 cast iron sad iron, manufactured in the United States during the late 19th to early 20th century. Before electric irons became common, heavy cast iron sad irons like this one were heated directly on a stove and used to press clothing, linens, and household textiles. This example features the raised ORION maker's mark and No. 6 size designation, along with its original removable wooden handle assembly designed to help protect the user's hand from heat while ironing. Today, these antique irons are prized for their rustic farmhouse appeal, industrial décor, and Americana collections, making them equally suited for display on a shelf, mantel, or in a vintage laundry room vignette. Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, surface oxidation, and patina consistent with years of use.
