A refined glimpse of Second Empire fashion, this coordinating set of two original 1861 fashion plates from the French periodical Magasin des Demoiselles depicts elegantly dressed women and children wearing the full crinoline skirts, fitted bodices, capes, bonnets, and detailed trimmings fashionable in mid-19th-century Paris. Published in Paris, France, and illustrated by noted French fashion artist Anaïs Toudouze, the colored engravings include an edition dated October 25, 1861. Both are displayed beneath glass with layered neutral matting and dark wood-tone frames. Good antique condition with visible foxing, toning, fading, and frame wear consistent with age and display.
