Bring colorful Italian character to a kitchen or dining space with this substantial Orvieto hand-painted ceramic lidded canister, crafted in Italy and decorated with a vibrant grape and vine motif. The large vessel features burgundy grape clusters surrounded by green and russet foliage, scrolling yellow vines, rich bands of blue, green, ochre, and terracotta, and sculptural curled side handles. A coordinating domed lid with decorative finial completes the traditional Italian form. The underside is marked “Orvieto” and 36/30, associating the piece with the long-established ceramic tradition of Orvieto in Umbria, Italy. A striking piece of Italian art pottery well suited for use as a decorative canister, kitchen accent, or centerpiece. Good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
