A hand-painted winged dragon fills the center of this vintage Italian maiolica tazza, framed by a cobalt blue border and a pair of tall, curling scroll handles. Made in Italy, this glazed earthenware pedestal bowl features olive-green motifs around the inner rim and scalloped panels in ochre, cobalt, and copper tones that continue down the flared foot. The underside bears the hand-painted mark AR Italy, and the initials and lustre decoration are consistent with pottery associated with Alberto Rubboli of Gualdo Tadino in Umbria. The Renaissance-inspired dragon and sculptural handles make this footed compote a distinctive centerpiece for an Italian art pottery collection. Good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. No chips or cracks.
