Depicting one of the earliest railroad engagements of the American Civil War, this framed reproduction print illustrates "First Ohio Regiment Surprised by a Masked Battery," a dramatic scene from the Battle of Vienna, Virginia, fought on June 17, 1861. Originally sketched by Civil War artist Henry Lovie and published in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper in 1861, the artwork captures Union troops of the 1st Ohio Infantry ambushed by concealed Confederate artillery while traveling by train between Alexandria and Leesburg. Beautifully matted in sage green and housed in a wood frame, this historical print is an excellent display piece for collectors of Civil War memorabilia, railroad history, and Americana. Good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
